Rasual Butler, who set a franchise record for made 3-pointers in one season with 145 last season, will return for at least one more year. Butler averaged 11.9 points in 33 minutes while appearing in all 82 games. He connected on 33.6 percent of his 3-point attempts while also setting a record for most attempts from the outlands during a single Clippers season with 432. He converted 41 percent of his shots overall. He also showed a flair for the dramatic, burying a multitude of clutch shots and frequently posturing afterward as if he knew his shot was going in. The Lakers went shopping for a bargain late in free agency and came away with a former UCLA player who liked the idea of returning to try to win an NBA championship. Matt Barnes, who carved out key roles recently with good teams in Phoenix and Orlando, doesn't have a specific role in the Lakers' mind as he comes to them. But Barnes' defensive tenacity and experience still figure to serve the team well off the bench, especially with fellow small forward Luke Walton's future in doubt because of his serious back injury. Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak said there is no certainty that Walton will play at all next season, although Walton hopes his rehabilitation this summer will pay off.
